YOGA POKE: SPRING EDITION

YogaPoke: Spring Edition

Back with popular demand is yoga and acupuncture! We’re here to help you shed the cloak of winter and usher you into spring. Herbal tea blends for relaxation provide a natural way to ease your body into this transition while providing great health benefits. Acupuncture also provides a beneficial way to transition your body into the cooling sensation of the season. With benefits like reduced stress, enhanced mental clarity and increased energy, you’ll be able to settle into your self care routine with the right tools. You can come to learn what it is, how it helps and what it feels like.

Our yoga practice will be a Yin-style “season cleaning”. Poses and sequences will focus on the liver meridian (the organ of foresight, vision, and planning) and will be geared toward clearing out what is no longer serving you in your life while making room for what does serve you.

Afterwards, you’ll be guided through the basics of acupunctures benefits with Jessica Schwartz, a licensed acupuncturist, Chinese herbalist, and massage therapist. Jessica takes a holistic and integrative approach to health and wellness and focuses on balancing the body, mind, and spirit of each unique individual. She works with the intention of helping patients meet their health goals and improving their quality of life by reducing pain, easing stress and tension, and regulating imbalance.

For this event, we recommend wearing comfy clothing for yoga and loose tops for acupuncture!

Feminist & Queer Happy Hour Boston

Networking is hard and weird. Meeting casually in a no pressure environment like this happy hour (we hope) is a way to network as people who care about the same things. Ideally there would also be cats, but I haven't figured out how to make that part happen yet.

In March we're checking out a new spot in Somerville, Remnant Brewery. This month we're raising funds for You Good, Sis. You Good, Sis is a collective for black and brown women looking for a mental, physical and spiritual check in. We strive to define and a create a specific space dedicated to the wellbeing of women of color. We are most proud of the people who consciously choose to be part of the community and continue to show up.

The event is free but we're asking for a suggested donation of $5 (cash or Venmo). We'll also be raffling off a $25 gift card to Remnant Brewing!

All are welcome! Please invite folks.

About your co-hosts:

Jamie is post-doc working on turning her dissertation about sexual orientation and gender identity in peace and conflict spaces into a book while living in Providence. She is also a clinic escort at Planned Parenthood.

Brenda is a a higher ed diversity professional and reproductive justice activist living in Boston. She volunteers with the Boston Abortion Support Collective (BASC).

Jasmine is a journalist and activist currently working as an admin in Back Bay. She lives in Cambridge and volunteers as a Big Sister with Big Sister Boston.

WOMXNS CIRCLE @NICHE

WOMXNS CIRCLE @NICHE

Join us in a small group setting to explore the healing power of your breath in community. If you're ready to release, rest, recharge and deeply connect with yourself, plants and some other amazing humans, you need to come through! This month we will continue our practice of leaning into the energy of your 2019 intentions and working through any blocks that you are ready to release so you can access more joy, self-acceptance and love.

THE BREATHWORK MEDITATION CIRCLE

We'll begin in circle, setting our intentions for the practice and identifying anything we are ready to heal and let go of. We’ll be incorporating the use of a hot cacao drink. Cacao helps expand your heart space and makes you open and ready for breathwork meditation and vulnerability. Then we will spread out and get comfy on our mats to begin a 45-minute breathwork journey, guided by a two-part pranayama breath, music and essential oils. You will use the fullness and healing power of each breath to feel your intentions, move through your limitations, nourish your nervous system, and deeply connect with your own energy and wisdom. Our group size will be limited so you can receive individual support and guidance, if needed. We will close in circle, with plenty of time for sharing and integration. Light snacks and tea will be available.

What to bring

  • A yoga mat, and extra layers to stay warm

  • A water bottle and journal

  • Bring a trinket, flower, or symbolic piece you would like to add to the center of the circle!

Additional Information:

  • We will only let people in who have RSVP'ed on this EventBrite, so please remember to get your ticket here and share with any friends you want to bring too! All welcome!

  • We will have a strict arrival time cut-off of 9:15 am to respect the sacred circle we create.

This is a healing space for people of color to move, breathe, and come together in community. This event is all levels and beginner friendly.

Fenway’s Women’s Health Team presents the Queer Womxn’s Empowerment Series, a workshop series that supports the holistic health of lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer women as well as non-binary and gender fluid individuals. The act of self-care is revolutionary for womxn of color. We are often not given the space to be seen as soft, vulnerable, or anything but negative portrayals that society has put on us. It is a revolutionary act to take five minutes for yourself and breath, to set boundaries for your mental wellbeing, to see a therapist. This workshop will explore breathe, yoga movement, and journaling as forms of self-care.
